Samuel, the founder of Braunton Joinery started out as a young lad, fixated on how things went together. From making bird boxes in the shed with his Grand-dad to starting his apprenticeship and work placement straight from school, then progressing from apprentice to foreman in local carpentry company, supplying products around North Devon and as far as London, Guernsey and France.
In 2013 Samuel branched out and set up his own carpentry and joinery business (SJ Carpentry and Joinery), developing his skills in all aspects of site carpentry from kitchen installs, making bespoke cupboards and even taking on the renovation of a French farmhouse. It was here that Samuel found the passion to start manufacturing joinery again, taking space in a friend’s garage he set up a small woodwork shop with multi-machine, morticer and band saw to produce new and exciting products to local customers and new businesses like Saunton Road Studios. Samuel’s success soon saw him outgrow his workspace and he relocated the business into his current industrial unit. Here he was able to expand and began to invest in more tooling such as mortisers, tennoners and spindle moulders, taking on new projects and building his portfolio.
Finally, Samuel was able to bring his experience and knowledge into new areas of carpentry and joinery, and in not forgetting his roots the recent addition of an apprentice has ensured Samuel can pass on his years of knowledge and passion.
